PCR APOE GENOTYPING
₹5,000
The PCR APOE genotyping test uses polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to analyze your DNA and identify your APOE genotype: E2/E2, E2/E3, E2/E4, E3/E3, E3/E4, or E4/E4.
E3/E3 is the most common, average-risk genotype. E4 carriers, especially E4/E4, have a higher risk of late-onset Alzheimer's disease and heart disease. E2/E2 is linked to type III hyperlipoproteinemia.
Since your genotype never changes, the test needs to be done only once. Results indicate risk, not a diagnosis.
You should get a PCR APOE genotyping test if you have very high cholesterol and triglycerides that don't respond to treatment, xanthomas, or a family history of early heart disease or Alzheimer's disease. It may also help evaluate memory problems alongside other tests. Genetic counseling is recommended before and after testing.
No special preparation or fasting is required for a PCR APOE genotyping test, as it analyzes your DNA from a blood sample or cheek swab. Inform your doctor if you have had a recent blood transfusion or bone marrow transplant, as these can affect results. Consider genetic counseling before testing.
No, fasting is not required for a PCR APOE genotyping test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample, because the test analyzes your DNA, which is not affected by food or the time of day. Inform your doctor about any recent blood transfusion or bone marrow transplant.
