Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)
₹3,000
The DHT test measures dihydrotestosterone, a potent androgen made from testosterone by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. It drives male development, body hair growth, and prostate function.
Normal DHT levels vary by age and sex, and are higher in men.
High DHT is linked to male-pattern baldness, benign prostate enlargement (BPH), acne, and in women, excess hair growth and PCOS. Low DHT, with a high testosterone-to-DHT ratio, suggests 5-alpha reductase deficiency, causing ambiguous genitalia in boys.
The test also helps monitor finasteride or dutasteride therapy.
You should get a DHT test if you have early or excessive hair loss, or if women have excess facial or body hair, acne, or irregular periods suggestive of PCOS. It is also recommended for ambiguous genitalia or delayed puberty in children, for suspected 5-alpha reductase deficiency, and for monitoring finasteride or dutasteride treatment.
Fasting is usually not required for a DHT test, but give your sample in the morning (around 7–10 AM), when hormone levels are most consistent. Women should ideally test on days 2–5 of the menstrual cycle. Inform your doctor about finasteride, dutasteride, testosterone, or hormonal medicines, as these affect DHT levels.
Fasting is usually not required for a DHT test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample. However, a morning sample (around 7–10 AM) is preferred, and women should ideally test on days 2–5 of the menstrual cycle. Some labs may advise fasting, so follow their instructions.
