Urine Uric Acid
₹450
The urine uric acid test measures uric acid in a spot urine sample, showing how the kidneys excrete uric acid. There is no fixed normal range, as results vary with diet and hydration.
It is often used with blood uric acid and creatinine to calculate the fractional excretion of uric acid (FEUA). A low FEUA suggests underexcretion, the most common cause of gout. A high value indicates overproduction, as seen in leukemia, lymphoma, or tumor lysis syndrome, or in conditions like SIADH.
It also helps assess kidney stone risk.
You should get a urine uric acid test if you have gout, high blood uric acid, or recurrent kidney stones, to understand how your kidneys handle uric acid. It is also recommended for patients receiving chemotherapy for leukemia or lymphoma, for evaluating low blood sodium, and when doctors suspect acute uric acid kidney injury.
No fasting is required for a urine uric acid test. Collect a clean, midstream urine sample in a sterile container, often at the same time as a blood uric acid test. Avoid high-purine foods like red meat and seafood, and alcohol, for 24 hours beforehand. Inform your doctor about gout medicines, diuretics, or aspirin.
No, fasting is not required for a urine uric acid test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample. However, avoid high-purine foods like red meat, organ meats, and seafood, as well as alcohol, for 24 hours beforehand, as they can raise uric acid levels and affect results.
