Urine Protein Creatinine Ratio
₹800
The urine protein/creatinine ratio (UPCR) measures total protein in urine relative to creatinine, using a spot urine sample. It reliably estimates 24-hour protein loss.
UPCR levels are interpreted as:
High UPCR indicates kidney damage, seen in diabetic or hypertensive kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and lupus nephritis. In pregnancy, a ratio of 0.3 mg/mg or higher suggests preeclampsia.
The test helps monitor treatment.
You should get a urine protein/creatinine ratio test if you have foamy urine, swelling in the face, feet, or ankles, or protein detected on a routine urine test. It is also recommended for people with diabetes, high blood pressure, lupus, or kidney disease, and for pregnant women with high blood pressure to check for preeclampsia.
No fasting is required for a urine protein/creatinine ratio test. Collect a first morning, midstream urine sample in a sterile container. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours beforehand, and avoid testing during fever, urinary tract infection, or menstruation, as these can falsely raise protein levels. Inform your doctor about any medicines.
