Urine Calcium Creatine Ratio
₹400
The urine calcium/creatinine ratio compares calcium with creatinine in a spot urine sample, giving a quick estimate of calcium excretion without a 24-hour collection.
Normal ratio in adults is typically below 0.2 mg/mg, with age-specific values in children.
A high ratio indicates hypercalciuria, which increases the risk of kidney stones and is seen in hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D excess, sarcoidosis, and idiopathic hypercalciuria. A very low ratio with high blood calcium suggests familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia (FHH).
It also helps monitor calcium and vitamin D therapy.
You should get a urine calcium/creatinine ratio test if you have recurrent kidney stones, blood in the urine, or abnormal blood calcium levels. It is also recommended for suspected hyperparathyroidism or FHH, for children with kidney stones or hematuria, and for monitoring calcium and vitamin D supplementation or hypoparathyroidism treatment.
Fasting is usually not required for a urine calcium/creatinine ratio test, though some doctors prefer a morning sample after an overnight fast. Collect a clean, midstream urine sample in a sterile container. Follow your usual diet, and inform your doctor about calcium or vitamin D supplements, diuretics, or steroids, as these can affect results.
Fasting is usually not required for a urine calcium/creatinine ratio test. You can eat and drink normally, though some doctors prefer a morning urine sample after an overnight fast for more consistent results. Collect a clean, midstream sample, and follow your doctor's or lab's specific instructions.
