Urine Calcium
₹400
The urine calcium test measures calcium in a spot urine sample, showing how the kidneys excrete calcium. There is no fixed normal range, as results depend on diet and hydration, so it is often interpreted with creatinine as a ratio.
High urine calcium (hypercalciuria) increases the risk of kidney stones and is seen in hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D excess, sarcoidosis, bone cancer, multiple myeloma, and prolonged bed rest.
Low urine calcium may indicate vitamin D deficiency, hypoparathyroidism, or familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia (FHH).
You should get a urine calcium test if you have recurrent kidney stones, blood in the urine, or abnormal blood calcium levels. It is also recommended for suspected parathyroid disorders, vitamin D deficiency or excess, osteoporosis, or sarcoidosis, and for monitoring calcium or vitamin D supplements.
No fasting is usually required for a urine calcium test. Collect a clean, midstream urine sample in a sterile container, preferably in the morning. Follow your usual diet unless advised otherwise, and inform your doctor about any calcium or vitamin D supplements, antacids, diuretics, or steroids, as these can affect results.
No, fasting is usually not required for a urine calcium test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample, though your doctor may sometimes prefer a morning sample after an overnight fast. Collect a clean, midstream sample, and inform your doctor about any calcium or vitamin D supplements.
