Urine Albumin
₹150
The urine albumin test measures albumin, a protein that normally stays in the blood, in a urine sample. Its presence in urine is an early sign of kidney damage.
Normal urine albumin is typically below 20–30 mg/L, varying by lab.
Raised urine albumin suggests diabetic or hypertensive kidney disease, glomerular disease, and increased heart disease risk. Temporary increases can occur with fever, urinary infection, strenuous exercise, or dehydration.
Since urine concentration varies, results are often reported as the albumin/creatinine ratio (UACR) for greater accuracy.
You should get a urine albumin test every year if you have diabetes or high blood pressure, to detect early kidney damage. It is also recommended if you have foamy urine, swelling in the face or feet, chronic kidney disease, heart disease, or a family history of kidney disease, and for monitoring treatment.
No fasting is required for a urine albumin test. Collect a first morning, midstream urine sample in a sterile container. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours beforehand, and avoid testing during fever, urinary infection, or menstruation, as these can falsely raise albumin. Inform your doctor about any medicines you take.
No, fasting is not required for a urine albumin test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample. A first morning, midstream urine sample is preferred. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours beforehand, and avoid testing during fever, infection, or menstruation for accurate results.
