SEMEN WASH ANALYSIS
₹3,000
A semen wash analysis involves processing a semen sample in the lab, using methods like density gradient or swim-up, to separate healthy, motile sperm from seminal fluid, dead sperm, and debris. The post-wash sperm count and motility are then measured.
The key result is the total motile sperm count (TMSC) after washing. A post-wash TMSC above about 5–10 million is associated with better IUI (intrauterine insemination) success.
Low post-wash values suggest IVF or ICSI may be more effective. The test helps plan the most suitable fertility treatment.
You should get a semen wash analysis when you are planning IUI (intrauterine insemination), or when your doctor needs to decide between IUI, IVF, or ICSI. It is especially useful if a routine semen analysis shows borderline sperm count or motility, and for couples with unexplained infertility or previous IUI failure.
No fasting is required for a semen wash analysis. Abstain from ejaculation for 2–5 days beforehand. Avoid alcohol, smoking, hot baths, and saunas for a few days. Collect the sample by masturbation in a sterile container, without lubricants, and deliver it to the lab within 30–60 minutes, kept at body temperature. Inform your doctor about any recent fever or medicines.
No, fasting is not required for a semen wash analysis. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample. However, you should abstain from ejaculation for 2–5 days beforehand, avoid alcohol and smoking, and collect the sample without lubricants for accurate results.
