RA Factor
₹650
The RA factor test measures rheumatoid factor, an autoantibody that attacks the body's own tissues. It helps diagnose rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Normal RA factor levels are typically below 14–20 IU/mL, varying by lab.
A positive RA factor is found in about 70–80% of people with rheumatoid arthritis, and high levels suggest more severe disease. It may also be positive in Sjögren's syndrome, lupus, hepatitis C, tuberculosis, and in some healthy older adults.
A negative result does not rule out RA. Anti-CCP testing is more specific.
You should get an RA factor test if you have joint pain, swelling, or stiffness, especially morning stiffness lasting over 30 minutes in the small joints of the hands and feet. It is also recommended for fatigue, low-grade fever, or dry eyes and mouth, suspected Sjögren's syndrome, and a family history of rheumatoid arthritis.
No special preparation or fasting is required for an RA factor test. Inform your doctor about any recent infections, liver disease, or autoimmune conditions, as these can cause a positive result. Also mention any medicines you take, including steroids or immunosuppressants, and follow your lab's instructions.
No, fasting is not required for an RA factor test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample, and the test can be done at any time of day. However, if other tests that need fasting are ordered alongside it, such as blood sugar or a lipid profile, follow those instructions.
