LDL Cholesterol (Direct)
₹370
The direct LDL cholesterol test measures low-density lipoprotein ("bad cholesterol") directly, rather than calculating it. This gives more accurate results when triglycerides are high, in diabetes, with non-fasting samples, or when LDL is very low.
LDL levels are classified as:
High LDL causes plaque buildup in arteries, increasing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and atherosclerosis.
The test helps assess heart risk and monitor statin therapy.
You should get a direct LDL cholesterol test if you have high triglycerides, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, or a family history of heart disease. It is especially useful when calculated LDL may be inaccurate, such as with very high triglycerides, very low LDL, or non-fasting samples, and for monitoring statin therapy.
Fasting is not strictly required for a direct LDL cholesterol test, as direct measurement is less affected by food. However, if it is done as part of a lipid profile, fast for 10–12 hours, drinking only water. Avoid alcohol and fatty foods for 24 hours beforehand, and inform your doctor about any cholesterol-lowering medicines.
Fasting is usually not required for a direct LDL cholesterol test, because direct measurement is less affected by meals than calculated LDL. However, if your doctor has ordered a full lipid profile alongside it, you should fast for 10–12 hours, drinking only water. Follow your doctor's or lab's instructions.
