LDH
₹600
The LDH test measures lactate dehydrogenase, an enzyme found in almost all body tissues, including the heart, liver, muscles, kidneys, and red blood cells. LDH rises when tissues are damaged.
Normal LDH levels are about 140–280 U/L, varying by lab.
High LDH levels may indicate hemolytic or megaloblastic anemia, liver disease, heart attack, muscle injury, lung disease, severe infections, or cancers such as lymphoma and leukemia.
LDH is a non-specific marker that helps assess tissue damage, monitor cancer treatment, and evaluate disease severity.
You should get an LDH test if your doctor suspects tissue damage from conditions like hemolytic anemia, liver disease, muscle injury, lung disease, or severe infections. It is also recommended for diagnosing and monitoring cancers such as lymphoma, leukemia, and testicular cancer, and for tracking treatment response.
No special preparation is needed for an LDH test, and fasting is generally not required. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours before the test, as it can raise LDH levels. Inform your doctor about any medicines or supplements you take, such as alcohol, anesthetics, aspirin, or vitamin C, since these may affect results.
No, fasting is generally not required for an LDH test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample. However, avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours beforehand, as it can raise LDH levels. If other tests that need fasting are ordered alongside it, follow those instructions.
