HbsAg by CLIA
₹1,000
The HBsAg test by CLIA (chemiluminescence immunoassay) detects hepatitis B surface antigen, the first marker to appear in the blood after hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. CLIA offers high sensitivity for early detection.
A non-reactive result indicates no detectable hepatitis B infection.
A reactive result means active hepatitis B infection. Persistence beyond 6 months indicates chronic hepatitis B, which increases the risk of cirrhosis and liver cancer.
The test is widely used for pregnancy screening, pre-surgery checks, and blood donation. Reactive results need confirmation and further tests like HBV DNA.
You should get an HBsAg test by CLIA if you have symptoms such as jaundice, fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, or dark urine, or possible exposure through unprotected sex, shared needles, tattoos, or blood transfusion. It is also recommended during pregnancy, before surgery or dialysis, and for healthcare workers and family members of infected people.
No special preparation or fasting is required for an HBsAg test by CLIA. Inform your doctor if you received a hepatitis B vaccine in the past 2–3 weeks, as it can rarely cause a temporary positive result. Also mention any biotin supplements, recent exposure, blood transfusion, or ongoing hepatitis B treatment.
No, fasting is not required for an HBsAg test by CLIA. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample, and the test can be done at any time of day. Inform your doctor about any recent hepatitis B vaccination, biotin supplements, or possible exposure, as these may affect interpretation.
