Globulin
₹350
The globulin test measures a group of blood proteins, including antibodies (immunoglobulins) and transport proteins, that support immunity, blood clotting, and liver function. It is usually calculated as total protein minus albumin.
Normal globulin levels are about 2.0–3.5 g/dL, varying by lab.
High globulin may indicate chronic infections (such as TB, HIV, or hepatitis), autoimmune diseases, cirrhosis, or multiple myeloma. Low globulin suggests immune deficiency, kidney disease, liver disease, or malnutrition.
Abnormal results may need protein electrophoresis for further evaluation.
You should get a globulin test if you have frequent infections, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, swelling, bone pain, or symptoms of liver or kidney disease. It is also recommended for suspected autoimmune disorders, immune deficiency, or multiple myeloma, as part of a liver function test, and during routine health check-ups.
Fasting is usually not required for a globulin test alone. However, if it is done as part of a liver function test, fast for 8–12 hours, drinking only water. Stay normally hydrated, and inform your doctor about any recent vaccinations, infections, or medicines like steroids or immunosuppressants, as these can affect results.
Fasting is usually not required for a globulin test alone. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample. However, if it is ordered as part of a liver function test or with other tests that need fasting, you should fast for 8–12 hours, drinking only water. Follow your lab's instructions.
