CREATININE, Fluid
₹270
The fluid creatinine test measures creatinine in body fluids such as ascitic (peritoneal) fluid, drain fluid, or pleural fluid, and is compared with serum creatinine.
A fluid-to-serum creatinine ratio well above 1 suggests the fluid contains urine, indicating a urine leak, urinoma, bladder or ureter injury, or a urinary fistula after surgery or trauma. Normally, fluid creatinine is similar to serum levels.
The test also helps evaluate post-surgical drain fluid and peritoneal dialysis adequacy, guiding timely treatment of urinary tract injuries.
A fluid creatinine test is advised by a doctor when a urine leak is suspected, such as unexplained abdominal fluid buildup (ascites), increased drain output after surgery, or fluid leakage after pelvic, kidney, or bladder surgery or trauma. It helps detect urinomas, bladder or ureter injury, and urinary fistulas, and is done alongside serum creatinine.
A fluid creatinine test uses a fluid sample collected by a doctor through paracentesis or thoracentesis, or directly from a surgical drain. Inform your doctor about any blood thinners, allergies, bleeding disorders, or pregnancy. Fasting is usually not required. A blood sample for serum creatinine is usually taken at the same time for comparison.
No, fasting is usually not required for a fluid creatinine test. You can eat and drink normally unless your doctor advises otherwise, for example if sedation is planned for the fluid collection procedure. Inform your doctor about any blood thinners or bleeding disorders, and follow the hospital's specific instructions.
