Cpk-Total
₹700
The total CPK (creatine phosphokinase) test measures all forms of creatine kinase, an enzyme found in skeletal muscles, the heart, and the brain. It rises when these tissues are damaged.
Normal total CPK levels are about 30–200 U/L, varying by sex, muscle mass, and lab.
High CPK indicates muscle damage from rhabdomyolysis, injury, myositis, muscular dystrophy, seizures, strenuous exercise, or statin use. It may also rise after a heart attack or with hypothyroidism.
Isoenzyme tests (CK-MB, CK-MM) help identify the source of damage.
You should get a total CPK test if you have unexplained muscle pain, weakness, cramps, or swelling, or dark, cola-colored urine after injury or intense exercise, which may signal rhabdomyolysis and needs urgent care. It is also recommended for suspected muscle disorders, for people on statins with muscle symptoms, and sometimes for evaluating chest pain.
No special preparation or fasting is required for a total CPK test. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours beforehand, as it can raise CPK levels. Inform your doctor about any recent injuries, falls, intramuscular injections, surgery, or medicines like statins, as these can affect results.
No, fasting is not required for a total CPK test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample. However, avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours beforehand, as it can raise CPK levels. Inform your doctor about any recent injuries, intramuscular injections, or statin use, as these may affect results.
