Cpk-MM

The CK-MM test measures creatine kinase-MM, the main form of creatine kinase found in skeletal muscles. It normally makes up about 95–100% of total CK in the blood.
High CK-MM levels indicate skeletal muscle damage, seen in rhabdomyolysis, muscular dystrophy (such as Duchenne), myositis, trauma, seizures, and after strenuous exercise or intramuscular injections. It can also rise with statin-related muscle injury and hypothyroidism.
The test helps diagnose and monitor muscle disorders and distinguishes muscle damage from heart-related causes.
You should get a CK-MM test if you have unexplained muscle pain, weakness, cramps, or swelling, or dark, cola-colored urine after an injury or intense exercise, which may signal rhabdomyolysis and needs urgent care. It is also recommended for suspected muscular dystrophy or myositis, and for those on statins with muscle symptoms.

No, fasting is not required for a CK-MM test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample. However, avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours beforehand, as it can raise CK levels. Inform your doctor about any recent injuries, intramuscular injections, or statin use, as these may affect results.
