CPK Isoenzymes Electrophoresis
₹8,000
The CPK isoenzymes electrophoresis test separates total creatine kinase into its three forms: CK-MM (skeletal muscle), CK-MB (heart), and CK-BB (brain, intestine, and prostate).
High CK-MM indicates skeletal muscle damage, such as rhabdomyolysis or muscular dystrophy. High CK-MB suggests heart muscle injury. High CK-BB may indicate brain injury, stroke, bowel ischemia, or certain cancers.
The test also detects macro-CK, an abnormal complex that can falsely raise CPK levels.
It helps identify the source of an unexplained high CPK.
A CPK isoenzymes electrophoresis test is advised when your total CPK is persistently high without a clear cause, to identify whether the damage is in the heart, skeletal muscle, or brain. It is also recommended when macro-CK is suspected, and for evaluating unexplained muscle weakness, suspected muscle disorders, or certain cancers.
No special preparation or fasting is required for a CPK isoenzymes electrophoresis test. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours beforehand, as it can raise CPK levels. Inform your doctor about any recent injuries, intramuscular injections, surgery, heart problems, or medicines like statins, as these can affect results.
No, fasting is not required for a CPK isoenzymes electrophoresis test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample. However, avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours beforehand, as it can raise CPK levels. Inform your doctor about any recent injuries, intramuscular injections, or statin use, as these may affect results.
