ASO Titer
₹600
The ASO titer test measures antistreptolysin O antibodies, produced after infection with group A Streptococcus, which causes strep throat and skin infections.
Normal ASO levels are typically below 200 IU/mL in adults, and may be slightly higher in children.
A high or rising ASO titer indicates a recent streptococcal infection. It helps diagnose complications such as rheumatic fever (joint pain, heart involvement) and post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (kidney inflammation).
ASO rises 1–3 weeks after infection, so repeat testing may be needed. It is not used to diagnose acute strep throat.
You should get an ASO titer test if you develop joint pain or swelling, fever, chest pain, skin rash, or involuntary movements a few weeks after a sore throat or skin infection, which may suggest rheumatic fever. It is also recommended for dark or blood-tinged urine, facial swelling, or high blood pressure, which suggest kidney inflammation.
No special preparation or fasting is required for an ASO titer test. Inform your doctor about any recent sore throat or skin infection, and any antibiotics or steroids you have taken, as these can affect antibody levels. A repeat test after 2–4 weeks may be advised to check for rising levels.
No, fasting is not required for an ASO titer test. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample, and the test can be done at any time of day. Inform your doctor about any recent throat or skin infections and antibiotic use, as these help interpret the results correctly.
