Anti HCV (CMIA)
₹1,000
The anti-HCV test by CMIA (chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay) detects antibodies against hepatitis C virus (HCV). It is highly sensitive and specific, and more accurate than rapid tests.
A non-reactive result indicates no hepatitis C antibodies, though very recent infection may be missed. A reactive result indicates past or current HCV infection. Higher signal-to-cutoff (S/CO) values are more likely to be true positives.
Untreated hepatitis C can cause cirrhosis and liver cancer. Reactive results need HCV RNA testing to confirm active infection and guide curative antiviral treatment.
You should get an anti-HCV test by CMIA if you have jaundice, fatigue, abdominal pain, or abnormal liver tests, or risk factors such as injection drug use, past blood transfusion, dialysis, tattoos, or needle-stick injury. It is also recommended before surgery or blood donation, during pregnancy, and to confirm a positive rapid test result.
No special preparation or fasting is required for an anti-HCV test by CMIA. Inform your doctor about any recent exposure, as testing too soon (within 8–12 weeks) may give a false-negative result. Also mention any past hepatitis C infection or treatment, since antibodies can remain positive even after a cure.
No, fasting is not required for an anti-HCV test by CMIA. You can eat and drink normally before giving your sample, and the test can be done at any time of day. Inform your doctor about any recent exposure or past hepatitis C treatment, as these may affect interpretation of the results.
