24 Hour Urine Creatinine
₹340
The 24-hour urine creatinine test measures the total creatinine excreted in urine over a full day. Creatinine is a waste product of muscle metabolism, cleared by the kidneys.
Normal levels are about 800–2000 mg/day in men and 600–1800 mg/day in women, varying by muscle mass and lab.
Combined with serum creatinine, it calculates creatinine clearance, an estimate of kidney filtration (GFR). Low levels may indicate kidney disease, low muscle mass, or an incomplete collection. High levels may occur with high muscle mass, a high-meat diet, or intense exercise.
You should get a 24-hour urine creatinine test if your doctor needs an accurate measure of kidney function, especially when blood creatinine or eGFR results are unclear. It is also recommended for people with diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease, or kidney stones, and before starting medicines that need kidney-adjusted doses.
To prepare for a 24-hour urine creatinine test, discard your first morning urine and note the time. Then collect all urine for the next 24 hours in the container provided, including the next morning's first sample. Keep the container refrigerated. Avoid heavy meat meals and strenuous exercise, drink fluids normally, and inform your doctor about any medicines.
No, fasting is not required for a 24-hour urine creatinine test. You can eat and drink normally during the collection period. However, avoid heavy meat or high-protein meals and strenuous exercise, as these can raise creatinine levels. Collect every urine sample over the full 24 hours for accurate results.
